1850 Jacob Hiram Welty Mumma Bible
[Bible currently in the possession of Douglas Marion Mumma]

This bible was originally owned by Jacob Hiram Welty Mumma (1830-1914). Jacob Hiram Welty Mumma was the first child born to Jacob Mumma and Mary Blessing after they migrated to Dayton, Ohio in 1827 from Sharpsburg, Maryland. The bible has been handed down from father to son. The bible records the births and marriage of Jacob Hiram Welty Mumma and Susannah Klepinger as well as their eleven children.

Included with the bible were several newspaper articles.  One article is about the marriage of Albert M. Mumma to Miss Mary C. Miller, an article about the suicide of Moses Millier, Mary's father and an article about the old Fairview School, including an 1885 photograph of the students.

A summary page listing all of Jacob & Susannah's children and their spouses. This was likely written by Aaron Klepinger Mumma when the bible was in his possession. Other writers have added additonal marriage and death dates.

[Page Eight -- Summary2]

A listing of Aaron Klepinger's paternal and maternal grandparents and their children. This was likely written by Aaron Klepinger Mumma when the bible was in his possession. Other writers have added additonal marriage and death dates.

A listing of the Aaron's wife's parents and their children.  Of interest, Aaron's brother, Perry, married the sister of his wife.

[Page Ten to Twelve]

These final pages were taped to the inside cover of the bible.  I believe they are a copy of the family information that was sen to John Puterbaugh of Rossburgh, Ohio. John was serving as the focal point of the Mumma contribution to a book being written by Stanley J. Kleppinger entitled "Kleppinger--Clippinger Klepinger Family History", published 1956 by George P. Schlicher & Son, Allentown, Penna.
